LS-3 Loudspeaker

Although the speaker is not the most exciting part of a military radio system, it is still a vital part of the set. On the LS-3 is very little to be found, and for this reason I have decided to dedicate a page to it. There are lots of variants in circulation, I just own three types. Starting with the oldest American version.

An almost bombproof cabinet with some slits to pass the sound. Iit is not really waterproof. Right below the jack into which the speaker cableplug is plugged. For example, the BC312 and BC348 receivers used the LS-3.

The backside with four screws. The cabinet is painted with black wrinkle paint or whatever that stuff may be called.

This speaker was made in 1945.

The speaker with matching transformer. With this one, the impedance is 4000 Ohms..

The schematic diagram in which no values are specified, there were also 600 Ohm versions, the speaker will probably be low impedance. The next variant an American version, which has been converted into a very universal thing by the Dutch army.

With a selector for four different impedances, namely 5, 250, 600 and 4000 ohms, there you have plenty of possibilities. The paint is black, matt.

The switch with the impedance indication.

Nameplate. NSN means Nato Stock Number (Thanks to Erik Middag), so the speakers have also participated in the NATO-era. Maybe they can still be ordered. Below this number It is clear that it is a modified version.

Also on the rear four mounting screws.

The interior with the large speaker.

Here again, the internal components.

The cabinets are fully covered inside with about 1 cm thick layers of felt. The quality of the speakers, for such a metal cabinet, is really good. Below the newer version of the LS-3

This one is olive green painted on the front, the cabinet is greenish.

There can not be seen (at least I can not) of of what year this one is.

The back, there has been saved up the bolts. Also, not all sides of the casing are covered with felt. A real low-cost version.

This looks Japanese, on the parts you can not be see whether that is true. By changing the connections both 600 ohms or 4000 ohms can be used. you must loosening and screwing all 12 bolts again.

Another look at the interior.

The two connectins. When somebody has photos and / or data from other variants of this speaker , I would appreciate an e-mail to PA3ESY
